Dear Readers,
We are pleased to welcome you to the new chapter of the Global Journal of Medical Students (GJMS). As we embark on this journey with a new publisher, we are thrilled to announce that GJMS has reached a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to serving the global medical student community.
Since our inception in 2022, GJMS has rapidly become a vital resource for aspiring medical professionals worldwide.1 We serve as a platform for students and physicians to share their knowledge, insights, and experiences, fostering a community of inspiration and learning for future physicians. Our dedication to fostering academic excellence, promoting research, and amplifying the voices of medical students and doctors has remained unwavering throughout our journey. However, to evolve and better fulfill our mission, change has become not just necessary, but imperative. With our new publisher, we are confident that GJMS will reach greater heights and expand our reach even further. This transition represents a fresh opportunity to reinvigorate our commitment to excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in healthcare research.
In contemporary medical academia, journals serve multifaceted roles beyond mere repositories of research findings. They function as vital conduits for disseminating new knowledge, facilitating scholarly discourse, and shaping professional practice. Moreover, journals play a pivotal role in the evaluation of academic achievements, serving as a metric for career progression and recognition.2 GJMS is dedicated to this cause.
GJMS boasts a dynamic and inclusive Editorial Board (EB) composed of esteemed medical professionals from across the globe. Our EB consists of eight senior editors (faculty and physicians) and seven junior editors (active undergraduate and postgraduate student researchers). We recruited junior editors with the aim of encouraging and exposing them to research and publication early in their careers. In addition, we have a strong senior advisory board for guidance and valuable feedback for GJMS. With more than fifteen members representing diverse backgrounds, nationalities, and specialties, the EB fosters a rich exchange of knowledge and ensures the highest quality of editorial and peer review for all submissions.
GJMS is committed to maximizing the reach and impact of student scholarships. Currently indexed with various platforms like Google Scholar to ensure broad discoverability of the research published in our journal, we aim for further upgrades in indexing in the future. GJMS publishes a wide range of article types, including original research, reviews, case reports, and letters to the editor. As an open-access journal, GJMS removes heavy financial barriers to publishing. We are committed to providing a platform for students and doctors to showcase their work without incurring heavy article processing charges. All publication costs are currently covered by the Global Association of Indian Medical Students, ensuring financial accessibility for all aspiring medical researchers.
As we navigate this transition, we remain steadfast in our dedication to our core values. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where students and physicians can learn from each other and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of medical literature. The establishment of such a journal not only enriches the academic landscape by amplifying the voices of undergraduate researchers but also contributes to the cultivation of future leaders in scientific inquiry and innovation.3
Hence, we invite medical students and physicians from all corners of the globe to submit their work to GJMS. We are eager to publish the next generation of groundbreaking research and insightful perspectives that will shape the future of medicine.
